London Student

Community guidelines

Welcome to your London Student community guidelines. Please read this page before you comment on articles. If you have any questions, please direct them to the secretary of the London Student Co-operative at general@londonstudent.coop

These guidelines are the result of close collaboration between a group of student volunteers after an open invite on our Facebook group.

We like:

Debate

A discussion is always improved if people bring knowledge and expertise to the table. In the comments, you have the opportunity to truly contribute to the story by sharing your knowledge. If you, or someone you know, has specific knowledge or expertise who could add to a story, let us know.
Please make sure your comments are concise, clear and relevant to the topic discussed in the article. Comments that are not relevant to the topic will be removed.

Proof

Do not make unsubstantiated claims. Your arguments should always be backed up by evidence. We encourage hyperlinking to other websites if they are relevant to the discussion. However, do not use the comment thread to advertise products or services.

Personal experiences

We value your stories! While contributing unique points to the discussion, they can provide support and encouragement for other readers too.

Consideration

Think carefully before you comment. Is your comment likely to be interpreted as insulting? Will your comment aid the discussion? Refrain from using swear words or abusive language.

We don’t like:

Libel

Do not intentionally communicate a false statement which is damaging to a person’s reputation. Unsubstantiated claims that come under this description will be removed without warning.

Abuse

Personal attacks do not contribute to discussion. Insulting comments towards other commenters or the writer will also be removed without warning.

Discrimination

Comments that contribute to the marginalisation of minorities are dangerous and will be removed without warning.

London Student takes a broad view on gender and sexuality – a person’s right to self-identify should always be paramount. Equally a basic understanding of broader definitions of race and racism is expected in all our comments, even if you do not agree with them.

If you deem a comment libellous, abusive or discriminatory, then please report it. Continued use of libelous, abusive or discriminatory language will lead to banning from the website.

We will refrain from publishing content that breaks these guidelines.
